Teaching & Coaching
Chunner Studio
Open classes, masterclasses, and private coaching — line, musicality, and the inner architecture of ballet.
Teaching Philosophy
Presence, discipline, and humanity.
Chun Wai Chan's teaching style is deeply shaped by his journey through multiple training systems and professional experiences — from studying at the Guangzhou Art School, to training at Houston Ballet, and now performing as a principal dancer with New York City Ballet. Having experienced a wide range of artistic approaches throughout his career, Chan brings a unique perspective to every class he teaches. While continuing to perform internationally, he has also taught consistently around the world, with masterclasses known for their energy, musicality, detailed coaching, and strong personal connection with students.
Beyond technique, Chan emphasizes the importance of presence, discipline, and humanity within the studio. For him, dance is not only about mastering steps, but about understanding yourself, learning how to communicate, and growing as a person through movement. His classes encourage students to be fully present — mentally and physically — by listening deeply, rehearsing combinations internally, and learning to absorb information with focus and intention. In an age filled with distractions and social media, Chan sees the dance studio as a rare space for genuine connection, concentration, and energy exchange.
“I believe that being in the same room, sharing movement and attention together, is what transforms training into artistry and students into complete human beings.”
